Austin Montgomery

Austin Montgomery is a recent graduate with a BA degree in English with an Emphasis in Professional Writing from Grand Canyon University. Austin is originally from Agoura Hills, California, a Los Angeles suburb 30 miles north of Los Angeles. Austin is pursuing a career in sports journalism. Austin developed a love for journalism after writing for his high school newspaper for two years and becoming the editor and chief of a Grand Canyon University Sports Blog known as Lope Nation. His career job would be to host a syndicated sports radio show and obtain a columnist position for a top publication. Austin specializes in one on one interviews and feature stories. Currently, Austin is a lead contributor for Student Union Sports and does occasional freelance work for the Daily Spread, Turning Point USA, the Odyssey, and the Action Network. Austin also works as a producer and is an On-Air Talent at Radio Phoenix. At the online station, Austin hosts a one-hour weekly radio show “Austin Montgomery Live” covering local Phoenix Sports airing at www.radiophoenix.org. Austin is responsible for the production, promotion, and guest scheduling of the show. Austin produces two self-produced podcasts called Desert Hot Takes and Lope Nation. When not advancing in his journalism career Austin is passionate about helping kids that are suffering from injury and illness. Austin worked with Children's Miracle Network serving as the sponsorship chairman for Grand Canyon University's inaugural Dance Marathon, that raised 5,100 for the Phoenix Children's Hospital. Austin is ready to take the next step in his journalism career.

Two decades later legendary Arizona sports journalist Paola Boivin will be become the first female sports journalist to be inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame on November 1st, 2017. Boivin joins a very impressive 2017 AZ Sports Hall-of-Fame Class that includes Valley Sports icons :Bill Bidwill, Shane Doan, Anthony Robles and Dan Majerle. Be the Match Bone Marrow Drive at Grand Canyon University PSA

Our assignment for our ENG 466 class was to make a 1-minute Scientific News Story. I decided to do mine on a local bone marrow drive going on at my school. Ken Ham and Bill Nye Debate on Creation and Evolution is Tainted with Logical Fallacies

The purpose of this paper was an analysis of Ken Ham and Bill Nye's debate between creationism and evolution on February 2, 2014, at Ham's Creation Museum in Kentucky. The paper was written for COM 362, Argumentation and Advocacy. The purpose was to identify and explain multiple logical fallacies used on both sides during the hour and a half debate. The assignment required to explain the fallacies in detail and the purpose of them. The essay includes a reflection of how the fallacies affect their arguments. It is great assignment to be able to analyze an debate from a neutral perspective and write criticism on both sides. The article displays my strengths of critical thinking and analysis.

I interviewed Paola Boivin as the subject for my radio story that I had to produce for my ENG 374 class; Multimedia Journalism in the 21st century. For the assignment, we were required to interview a prominent guest related to my story. The story is centered around 20 year Arizona Repulic Sports Columnist Paola Boivin's induction into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame. Paola Boivin was the most important subject. Boivin was the first female sports journalist to receive the honor. This portion of the assignment reveals the full interview for a story on Paola Boivin's introduction into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame. The interview was originally aired on Sinclair and Montgomery Live on October 19th 2017. The interview covers Boivin's initial reaction to her induction 1:01-3:03, the increasing role of women in sports media "3:03-4:35".
