Traditionally sports newsrooms across the country had been dominated by male voices, but Paola Boivin broke this barrier when joining the sports staff at the Arizona Republic in 1995. Two decades later legendary Arizona sports journalist Paola Boivin will be become the first female sports journalist to be inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame on November 1st, 2017.
Boivin joins a very impressive 2017 AZ Sports Hall-of-Fame Class that includes Valley Sports icons :Bill Bidwill, Shane Doan, Anthony Robles and Dan Majerle.
Boivin had a humble reaction to being inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

Boivin was a reporter for the Arizona Republic for over 20 years becoming a significant- reliable sports media figure in the Valley. Boivin is nationally recognized as being a major pioneer for women in sports media while winning numerous awards for sports columns that provided a voice for long shots and underdogs.
Boivin was able to create a prominent sports media career while overcoming the challenges of sexism, objectification, and discrimination that women typically face in the sports media industry. Boivin talked about the notable discrimination she faced while she was a female sports journalist:

Since retiring from the Republic in 2016, Boivin has taken a role as a professor at Walter Cronkite Journalism school at ASU. Boivin is now using her experience to guide and educate future journalist.
